U.S. Peace Corps Response - Dar es Salaam, Tanzania - '11 - '12 - National Program Coordinator

Coordinated the start-up of the Stomping Out Malaria in Africa Program for Peace Corps' country program in Tanzania, as part of an international start-up team. Malaria eradication is a coordinated public health response in the larger US Government Global Health Initiative strategy. Trained 160 volunteers and staff in malaria eradication and methods of community outreach and intervention. Introduced common web based social networking tools to processes of training, education, outreach and monitoring and evaluation.

US Peace Corps Response - Quezon City, Philippines - '10 to '11 - DRRM Specialist

Research and policy advisor regarding disaster management, global warming, and human migration and human trafficking in relation to the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Framework. Includes research regarding Hyogo Frameworks of DRRM and Global Warming, SPHERE protocols, and community education tools and materials based on Communication for Development (C4D). Duties include organizational capacity building, related writing, research and networking activities. This disaster mitigation effort is among the first of its kind in the Southeast Asia region and worldwide.

FEMA - Beaumont, Texas - 2008-2009 - (DHOPS) Disaster Housing Operations Specialist - (DR1791)

Hurricane Ike. Contributed to site location, assessment and selection for the establishment of emergency housing Community Parks in the disaster area. Also performed Disaster Housing inspections, tenant lease-ins, QA/QC inspections of the work of federal contractors and subcontractors in the siting and installation of emergency housing.

FEMA - Topeka, Kansas - 2008 - Hazard Mitigation Community Education and Outreach Officer - (DR1776)

Hailstorm, Severe Winter Weather, Tornados and Flooding. Performed public education functions in public venues in a 15 county radius in south and central Kansas, pertaining to homeowner disaster preparedness, construction practices, basic building codes, and multi-hazard mitigation concerns and practices. Assisted the Federal 406 Mitigation grant program as function of public infrastructure recovery, analyzing devastated commercial structures and identifying and proposing reconstruction mitigation measures.

FEMA - Olympia, WA - 2007 - Hazard Mitigation Community Education and Outreach Officer - (DR1671)

Severe winter weather and Flooding. Participated in repetitive-loss data collection and analysis for the National Flood Insurance Program, analyzing and recording causes of repetitive property damage losses due to natural hazards, on and around Vashon Island, Washington.

FEMA - New Orleans, Louisiana - 2005 - (DRC) Disaster Recovery Center Advisor - (DR1603 & DR1607)

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Advised members of the public in construction and reconstruction practices, flood insurance advocacy, aspects of the federal assistance program and customer advocacy, multi-hazard mitigation concerns and practices.

U.S. Crisis Corps/FEMA - 2005 -Boutte, Louisiana - Individual Assistance (IA) Caseworker - (DR1603)

Hurricane Katrina. Among the first 50 volunteers in the historic first ever domestic deployment of the U.S. Peace Corps, following the largest disaster in United States history. In a Peace Corps/FEMA partnership agreement, I was assigned to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a first response caseworker, received specialist training, provided one-on-one assistance, counseling and customer advocacy to disaster victims in the storm ravaged New Orleans metro area.

U.S. Crisis Corps - Kahatia, Kenya - East Africa - 2002 - NGO(CBO) Capacity Building Specialist

African HIV/AIDS Crisis. 6 month emergency deployment in Kahatia, Central Province, Kenya, East Africa. Served as a Capacity Building Specialist with local NGOs (CBOs) and youth groups as part of a disaster relief initiative in one of the most acutely HIV-infected regions of the world. Provided leadership training, principals and strategies for NGO(CBO) formation, training of trainers, funding development, collaborative design of community outreach strategies, community education and mobilization functions.

U.S. Peace Corps - Dogondoutchi, Niger - West Africa - 1986-88 - Rural Development Agent

Sahelian drought and famine. 2 year service including community program development in the areas of basic agricultural strategies, improved cook stove promotion, and the promotion of HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
